This keeps making the rounds on Tumblr and I’m sick and tired of one particular word… Jon Snow is not a member of a prestigious house. He is a bastard of a prestigious house. He doesn’t get praise or admiration for being a Stark (indeed, he’s not one), he gets scorn and contempt. The Night’s Watch was his one chance of making a name for himself, something he wouldn’t have if he had stayed in Winterfell, forever being “Ned Stark’s bastard son”.
